How we need to pray for one another.
So many people are hurting. From loss of precious life to loss of a beautiful island. We cannot process the pain that some of our fellow Americans, friends and family are enduring. We cannot fix the suffering that is being experienced by so many— those known and unknown to each of us. Our hearts are heavy and even broken for what we witness. However, there is something we can do that will make a difference. Let us pray!
The Bible provides us with a blueprint to pray for one another.
I Timothy 2:1 —
I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people.
We can pray for all people — bringing petitions (appeals), prayers (requests), intercessions (prayer or petition in favor of someone else) and thanksgiving for someone (gratitude).
God is not looking for an eloquent speech, a dissertation, or perfect communication. No! God merely wants to hear your heart. Whatever your lips can utter on behalf of someone in need, He will hear it —
Psalm 66:17-20 - I cried to Him with my mouth, and high praise was on my tongue. If I had cherished iniquity in my heart, the Lord would not have listened. But truly God has listened; He has attended to the voice of my prayer. Blessed be God, because He has not rejected my prayer or removed His steadfast love from me!
Colossians 1:9 —
For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of His will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives.
We can continually pray for one another! Ask God for knowledge of His will through wisdom and understanding on behalf of each other. Do not stop praying for wisdom!
Matthew 5:44 —
But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you.
Here the Lord shows us we have an assignment to pray for those we consider enemies. There is opportunity to do good and bless those that are not good to us …when we pray for them.
Hebrews 4:16 —
Let us, therefore, come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.
As we come boldly to God’s Throne of Grace in prayer (with humbled confidence before our God) we, in turn, receive His mercy. The Lord gives us grace to help, He gives us what is needed to be there for someone else. This allows us the honor to be put in a position of assisting others in their time of need.
Ephesians 6:18 —
And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.
Continue to pray on all occasions, at all times, with any request …for everyone — near and far — known and unknown — friend and foe.
Let us pray!
Friend, whatever your need is today, you can trust I will be praying for you. Be blessed ... Jesus loves you so.
