When You Don’t Understand

When we have questions that seem to have no answers, it can cause great confusion and concern. Our best efforts to understand don’t always offer the results we need.

There are several ways the Lord gives us to get the necessary comprehension we require.

1. Study the Word

II Timothy 2:15

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Psalm 119:15

I will meditate on Your precepts And regard Your ways.

II Peter 3:18

But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen.

Study the blueprint God has given us – THE BIBLE. The details of life are in God’s Word. When we deep dive and get knowledge – facts – we are better equipped to get understanding. This moves us in the right direction to the answers to our questions.

2. Seek Almighty God

Psalm 32:8

I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.

Psalm 143:8

Let the morning bring me word of your unfailing love,

for I have put my trust in you.

Show me the way I should go,

for to you I entrust my life.

I Samuel 30:8

David inquired of the Lord…

There is not a situation in our lives where we cannot find God’s direction as we seek Him. He is more than able to handle our questions, our confusion, and our heaviness of life. As we inquire of the Lord, He will graciously respond with teaching, counsel, and instruction. Almighty God will show us the way we should go as we humbly request His plans for our lives. Know this – God has His loving eye on you. His answers will all be for His glory.

3. Pray

Jeremiah 33:3

Call to me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.

I John 5:14

This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us.

Psalm 86:7

In the day of my trouble I shall call upon You, For You will answer me.

Prayer is the best way to get understanding. When we pray, we are having a conversation with the Lord. We praise the Lord, bring our petitions or inquisitions to Him followed by gratitude. In closing, we praise Him again. This is not a formula to get what you want, but it is a manner in which to have a relationship with God that includes conversation. Sometimes the conversations include questions, inquiries, appeals for the perplexities of our hearts. The Lord is so good to answer.

These are just a few steps to get understanding when questions are insurmountable. God is loving, kind, good and faithful to answer when we cry out to Him.

Proverbs 17:27

He that hath knowledge spareth his words: and a man of understanding is of an excellent spirit.

In making these choices, you receive understanding from Almighty God that you need. When you do these things, you start to see Proverbs 17:27 evident in your life. How wonderful to know you can have knowledge, understanding and be known as one with an excellent spirit!

This is the fruit of spending time with God …even when we so desperately need understanding!
